I had never heard of Sara Fine but this book was on the Kindle first list and sounded interesting. The world building is interesting, there are dry areas and then there are wet, Boston is now more like Venice, with canals and waterways. Cacy is the rich daughter who rejected the corporate life with her father to work as an EMS. A job rendered more dangerous by the shortage of fire or police, and the organ pirates who prey on victims, and the EMS responders. Added to that is her "other" job, escorting souls to heaven or hell, including her last partner and her last boyfriend.

Also in the mix are the Kere, led by the brother of the fates who weave the future, they mark people for death, they have a treaty with the Ferry's (as in the ferry man, the leader of the Ferrys is the Charon, Casy's older brother), but there appears to be rogue Kere.

Eli had transferred in from a dry area because of his sister getting a job in a college research lab. The attraction between the two is immediate, complicated by a supervisor who has the hots for Casy, and the fact that Casy's dad bought the EMS from the City.

There are also other plots that would be spoiler, but not everyone wants souls escorted, could Galena be a marked soul (Eli's sister) and how would Cacy handle it. There is a little something for everyone here, hot romance, dystopia, paranormal, plots, politics, and a mystery. The world building is excellent, the US but reimagined after a disaster that totally changes the landscape, the writing is tight, the story interesting, the characters developed. I will be getting the next one coming out in March.
